This free checking account opens the door to basic financial services for people ages 14–17 living in the care of the State of Vermont. By removing the barriers that require an adult's signature, youth can manage their finances with a checking account designed especially for them.

To get the process started, send a message to [email protected]. An unexpired school ID card is preferred. We will also accept an affidavit from the caseworker or other professional making the referral, stating they know the person requesting the account.

Prior to turning 18, the account holder will be provided with other checking account options that provide high value and an opportunity to build credit.

Overdrafts and Courtesy Pay are not available with Indy accounts. Transactions exceeding the account's available balance will be declined, and no fee will be charged. Automatic transfers from the member's savings account can be used to cover an overage if the funds are available.
