Mobile Payments

Leave your plastic NorthCountry debit card in your wallet and use your mobile phone instead! It’s safe, easy, and available for Apple, Android, and Samsung phones. Ready to get started? Go to your app store and look for ApplePay, Android Pay, or Samsung Pay. The next time you want to purchase something with your debit card, pull out your mobile phone, open the app, and hold it over the point-of-sale terminal. Tokenization keeps the transaction secure, and your plastic card can stay tucked neatly in your wallet.

PIN Changes

Please note it is best practice to never share your PIN. If you do need to change it:

  • Call (888) 467-7001
  • Use ‘Change PIN option’ at any NorthCountry ATM
  • Stop by any of our branches

Card Security

Please keep your information secure, review your monthly statements, destroy old statements, and notify us immediately if you notice anything suspicious regarding your account.

Never divulge your account, debit card information, password, or PIN to anyone who contacts you by phone, text or email. We have your information on file and will never ask you for it. If you ever suspect someone has contacted you with the intent to commit fraud, Contact Us immediately.

Best Practices

  • Never share your PIN
  • Never write your PIN down (especially not in a location like a purse or wallet or on the debit card)
  • Never use an easy-to-guess PIN like your birth date, the last four digits of the card, etc.
  • Ignore texts, emails, or phone calls asking you to share your card or account information. We have that information on file and will not ask you for it
  • Monitor your account regularly. If you notice a problem, Contact Us immediately
  • When making a purchase online, stick to established sites that are familiar to you
  • Never give your card number to someone you don’t know, especially persons calling for fundraisers, offering to fix your computer, etc.

Fraud Department

We have fraud detection settings in place to identify suspicious purchases. You may have received a call from our fraud department attempting to verify transactions with you. During regular business hours please call us for assistance. We can be reached at (800) 660-3258. After hours you can reach our fraud department at (800) 889-5280, option 1.

Zero Liability Protection

Zero Liability Protection applies to your debit card purchases. As a cardholder, you will not be held responsible for unauthorized transactions if:

  • You have used reasonable care in protecting your card from loss or theft; and
  • You have promptly reported to NorthCountry when your debit card was lost or stolen.

Chip Cards

A chip card encrypts your card number into a one-time use number keeping your card information secure. It also reduces the ability to duplicate your information and your chances at being a victim of fraud.

Travel Notifications

Some may say we’re a little overprotective, but we take your account’s security very seriously. Before leaving home, please let us know you’ll be traveling. Give us a call at (800) 660-3258 and we’ll adjust the fraud detection settings on your card to avoid having it be unnecessarily declined while you’re away.

Link my Account to a Line of Credit

To avoid overdraft fees, ask about a checking line of credit. When your transaction request exceeds the funds available in your account, a loan will be generated in increments of $100 (up to your limit) to cover the amount of your purchase or withdrawal.

Great! Within online banking and under the 'Aditional Services' tab, select 'Apply for a Loan'. This will open the loan application where you can apply for a Share Draft (Checking) Line of Credit under the Personal Loans section.

Open an account today online or by stopping into one of our branches where we'd be happy to assist you. Once your account is open and your online banking account is established, you can log into online banking and choose to add an account for your checking line of credit (upon approval).
